Built in 1857 on this site, was the first permanent building on campus. Initially occupied by Farm Foreman John Herman and family, it was later used as a residence by such illustrious faculty as James Mckee, Whitman Jordan, and John Price Jackson. Moved about 100 yards north of here in 1889, it was home to Chi Omega Sorority 1929-48, as seen in this 1946 view, then used for academic offices until razed in 1972.
