301 Union Street North
Built in 1910
Renovations in 1995, 1952, 1998
The Facilities building hosts many of the Carleton staff members who keep campus running day-to-day. It is also the home of the old steam plant and stack, which were permanently shut down on May 21, 2021 with the campus-wide switch to a more environmentally friendly geothermal heating and cooling system. Before the steam plant was constructed in 1910, each building on campus had its own furnace, requiring coal to be transported constantly across campus and exposing buildings to greater risk of fire.
