400 East 1st Street
Built in 1920 and renovated in 2001, Bird House is one of two main home bases for Alumni Relations at Carleton, with some offices located here and some at 200 Division St. The house is especially bustling at the start of every summer, when it serves as headquarters for Reunion. It is named after longtime resident and professor of romance languages James Pyper Bird, who taught at Carleton from 1915 to 1946. Professor Bird was known to throw chalk at students caught sleeping in his classes, and as a former baseball star, he was quite good at it!
