Severance is almost always called by its nickname: Sevy! Mostly serving as a residence hall with a classic college dorm vibe, Sevy is quite popular due to its position as part of The Complex—a collection of connected buildings made up of residence halls Davis, Burton, and Sevy as well as Sayles-Hill Campus Center. Sevy also boasts an entrance to Burton’s dining hall, central office space for the Dean of Students and Residential Life, and the beautiful Great Hall, where many college and student events are held (and which was used as the filming location for a scene in “The Mighty Ducks 3” in 1995!). Sevy is named after Cordenio and Frances Severance, the latter of whom attended Carleton from 1877 to 1880. It was dedicated in 1928 by U.S. Secretary of State Frank B. Kellogg.
