The Penn State (PAC) Herbarium represents one of the oldest natural history collections on the University Park campus. Started with 3000 plant specimens from the personal collection of Evan Pugh, Penn State's first president, the herbarium now houses over 100,000 pressed plant specimens and seeds. It is the third largest herbarium in Pennsylvania and the only research herbarium in the central part of the Commonwealth. About two-thirds of the collection is from Pennsylvania with the remaining one-third from North America (outside of Pennsylvania), as well as smaller collections from Latin America, Europe and Asia.Over 200 years of botanical history is preserved at the PAC which is located at 10 Whitmore Lab.
