The Armsby Respiration Calorimeter operated as a research instrument from 1902 through 1969 conducting experiments in animal nutrition, metabolism and the energy value of feed rations. The largest calorimeter chamber of its kind was initially designed for cattle, and in used in the 1950s for human trials. In 1979 the site was named to the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors walk into the instrument, exploring the craftsmanship of its features and the history of agricultural research and scientific discovery.
