  1. Academic Building

    1. West Gymnasium

      321 Division Street North

Built in 1965. One of multiple campus buildings designed by prominent 20th century architect Minoru Yamasaki, West Gym hosts an indoor swimming pool, two basketball courts, and weight training facilities. When designing the gym, Yamasaki decided that the most exciting visual aspect of the building should be its roof, because the roof is the first thing visitors see when coming down from the main area of campus (and it is, indeed, a very cool roof). West Gym was dedicated on May 20, 1964 with a water ballet by the Carleton Dolphins women’s swimming group, an address by Purdue University President Fred L. Hovde, and a concert by the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra.
