Community Service-Learning (CS-L) was founded in 1986 by JMU faculty members, Dr. Cecil Bradfield (Sociology) and Ann Myers (Social Work) who integrated Service-Learning in their courses and sought support for the faculty and student interest in community involvement. Thirty years later that same sense that our founders appreciated has blossomed into a university committed to thoughtful and meaningful community engagement across campus. Meaningful service to the larger community coupled with reflection leads to powerful learning. Students typically describe these extraordinary opportunities as some of the most profound experiences of their college career.
