Carrier Library is temporarily closed for renovation and expansion. It is expected to reopen in 2026.
Carrier Library is named for Dr. Ronald E. Carrier, JMU's fourth president, and his wife, Edith J. Carrier. The original building, constructed in 1940, was named Madison Memorial Library. The library was renamed in honor of the Carriers in 1984.
Additions were completed in 1971, 1982 and 1995, more than doubling the original size of the library building. The current renovation project will result in 138,224 square feet of renovated space and 56,887 square feet of new construction. See a preview of the future Carrier Library.
