      1. Keezell Hall

Now home to the Departments of English and Foreign Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, Keezell Hall originally housed a gymnasium and an indoor pool.

Former president Samuel Page Duke enjoyed the facility’s inaugural swim on the occasion of the building’s dedication as Reed Hall, after Walter Reed. Later, when the infirmary was named in Reed’s honor, the building was renamed for Virginia State Senator George B. Keezell, who was instrumental in having JMU (then the State Normal and Industrial School for Women) located in Harrisonburg. The building also contained the precursor to the campus school when it accommodated a small elementary school training program.
