      1. Harrison Hall

Harrison is home to the School of Media Arts and Design and their studio spaces, the School of Communication Studies, the School of Writing, Rhetoric & Technical Communication, the Institute for Constructive Advocacy and Dialogue, and the College of Arts and Letters Dean’s Office. It boasts photography, interactive media, general purpose and post-production labs, as well as a television studio.

In the past, Harrison Hall has contained a library, dining services, laundry rooms, tea rooms, music classes and rehearsal spaces, a post office and even a “moving picture machine.” The building is named for Harrisonburg native Gessner Harrison, who served as a Latin professor at the University of Virginia for 20 years.

        Study Spaces/Computer Labs:

Students are welcome to study on all three floors of Harrison Hall, including in the lobby. Don't miss the wonderful outdoor options: high-top tables and chairs on the patio, or Adirondack chairs on the porch of Darcus Johnson Hall (adjacent to Harrison). Three computer labs in Harrison are also open for studying and printing whenever they’re not being used for a class. Learn more about the computer labs in Harrison 103 (with Macs), Harrison 111 (with PCs), and Harrison 117 (with PCs), or view the labs’ schedules.
