The Phyllis J. Washington Education Center is the epicenter of UM’s College of Education programs. The ALI Auditorium is located within the College of Education Center.

Originally called the Business Administration and Education Building, it was renamed the Education Building in 1996 and the Phyllis J. Washington Education Center in 2009. Named for donor Phyllis J. Washington, who graduated from the university in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education.

In 2017, the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation generously donated a $10 million gift, which the University used to construct an addition that was completed in late 2018.
