Southern Methodist University completed its remodel and modernization of the Owen Arts Center and Greer Garson Theatre buildings. This was a significant renovation to these Meadows School of Arts facilities, adding new teaching and collaboration spaces to the Art School complex, while improving the learning experience for students through the thoughtful reorganization of spaces, improved adjacencies, advanced teaching technology, amended public spaces, and life safety upgrades. The project added 13,530 SF of new interior spaces, while also renovating/improving 114,537 SF of the existing buildings. Additional improvements included the addition of exterior spaces including the Harrison Promenade, the Gene and Jerry Jones Plaza, and the Sexton Family Courtyard. This project was awarded LEED Silver certification. The contractor diverted 73.88% of the on-site generated construction waste from landfill through recycling and reuse programs. 12.31% of the total building materials content, by value, has been manufactured using recycled materials. 10.78% of the total building materials value includes materials and products that have been manufactured and extracted within 500 miles of the project site reducing entrained energy of those materials.
