History Station: Women's Organizations
Women have featured prominently in the development of USC since its founding in 1880. Town and Gown, for example, has been rallying women throughout Southern California since 1904, raising funds for buildings and campus improvements as well as its flagship scholarship program — launched in 1958 with a single scholarship fund and now boasting a multimillion-dollar endowment. This station spotlights women’s organizations and their contributions to USC — from the Faculty Women’s Club (formed as a faculty wives’ club in 1912) and its scholarship and awards programs, to the diverse alumnae groups that have banded together under the aegis of the Alumnae Coordinating Council to support students, alumni and the university.
