History Station: The Founding of USC
It took nearly a decade for the idea of USC to become a reality, but vision and persistence paid off when members of the Methodist Episcopal Church finally founded the University of Southern California in a mustard field in "West Los Angeles" in 1880. This station describes that process; it is liberally illustrated with early images, including a stereoscope of the oldest known photo of the university’s first building — today’s Widney Alumni House.
