History Station: Olympic History
USC’s first Olympic athlete was a student named Emil Breitkreutz, a runner who brought home a bronze medal in the 800-meter run in 1904. Since then, USC has produced more Olympic athletes than any other university in the United States. At least one USC athlete has returned with a medal from virtually every Olympiad since 1912 — the year Fred Kelly won USC’s first gold for the 100-meter high hurdles. This station highlights some of the most successful Trojan Olympians, as well as the pivotal role that the university played in the 1932 and 1984 Olympic games in Los Angeles.
