Located in the largest New Mexico crop production area in New Mexico, The Agricultural Science Center at Clovis is able to conduct relevant research for area producers related to limited water Clovis resources. The elevation and soil types in this area are representative of a vast area of the high plains of New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle. This ASC is able to assist farmers with improved tillage, crop rotation, and soil management practices for traditional and alternative crops. Clovis is the only plant breeding center located off-campus, and is engaged in development of Valencia peanuts. New Mexico is known for producing specialty peanuts like the Valencia type (three- to four-seeded pods, red skin, sweet taste, and good flavor), in the USA. This ASC was established in 1948 and sit upon 166 acres owned by NMSU. Agricultural Science Center at Clovis is located in Curry County.
