          The David H. Townsend Library contains almost 40,000 books, 70 magazine/journal subscriptions in print with several thousand more online through various databases, nearly 1,000 New Mexico State documents and several thousand audio visual titles. The present library building was completed in 1982. It was officially named “David H. Townsend Library” on October 30, 1992. David H. Townsend was a history professor at NMSU-A, as well as Branch Campus Director from 1978-1982, and remains a long-time library supporter. 

          By promoting information literacy and providing resources and services, David H. Townsend Library supports the academic goals of New Mexico State University at Alamogordo in serving its diverse communities
