The bidding for the construction of the Chemistry Building, Gardiner Hell, and Jett Hall all opened the same day in 1955. Jett Hall occupies the southern side of the Horseshoe. This building was constructed with Jett Annex in 1957, and in 1965 the northeast, east, and West wings were added along with improvements to the entrance. After more than 60 years, Jett Hall is still home to the chemical, mechanical, and aerospace engineering departments. The hall was named after Daniel Boone Jett, a beloved former dean of the College of Engineering and a professor of civil engineering for 30 years.
