    1. 1618 MTT Lab

Building 1600 hosts the Machine Tool Technology (MTT) program’s Ashley Long Computer Numerical Control (CNC) laboratories. The computer laboratory in 1618 is home to cutting edge Stratasys F123 series 3D printers, capable of .005” slice heights and even printing flexible material. 1618 also offers student’s access to Solidworks computer aided drafting (CAD) and Mastercam computer aided manufacturing (CAM) software and a Universal Laser Systems laser cutter with rotary axis.

The machine shop laboratory in the adjoining 1620 offers 3 CNC vertical mills (Haas VF2, VF3, and Hurco) including 4th and 5th axis trunion and rotary table; 4 CNC lathes (Haas SL-20, ST10Y, TL2 and Kia) featuring live tooling and Y axis travel; a Mitsubishi electrical discharge machine (EDM); 2 coordinate measuring machines (CMM); and a variety of manual machines and tools.

Between the two labs, a Chabot MTT student can make anything from high precision tools and parts to lightsabers and musical instruments.

Work alongside apprentices from Tesla and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory to gain the skills and knowledge required to join the growing workforce of numerical control machinists in the Bay Area.
