The Sullivan Museum & History Center is one of Norwich’s most distinctive spaces—offering an immersive look into the university’s legacy of leadership, service, and innovation. As Vermont’s only Smithsonian Affiliate, the museum features artifacts, rotating exhibits, and interactive displays that connect Norwich history to major moments in American and world events. Located next to Kreitzberg Library, it’s a place where the past directly informs the future.
Inside, you’ll encounter everything from cadet uniforms and personal artifacts to large-scale historical displays—each telling part of the Norwich story. Exhibits often connect to student work, academic programs, and broader global themes, making the museum an extension of the classroom. Whether you’re exploring Captain Alden Partridge’s founding vision of the “citizen soldier” or discovering how Norwich graduates have shaped history, every visit offers something new.
History: Dedicated in 2007, the museum is named in honor of Gen. Gordon R. Sullivan ’59, former U.S. Army Chief of Staff and longtime chairman of the Norwich University Board of Trustees. In 2014, it was designated a Smithsonian Affiliate, giving it access to national-level collections and exhibitions—further elevating its role as a center for education and historical engagement.
