Dewey Hall is a dynamic academic building where science, technology, and the humanities intersect. It houses specialized spaces like neuroscience labs and flight simulation technology, along with faculty offices for psychology, English, communications, and philosophy. Dewey is also home to Norwich’s Center for Cybersecurity and Forensics Education and Research (CyFER), where students gain hands-on experience in real-world digital security environments.
History: Built in 1902, Dewey Hall is named for Rear Adm. George Dewey, a Norwich graduate and national hero of the Spanish-American War, best known for his victory at the Battle of Manila Bay. Originally constructed in 1899 and completed three years later, the building once served as a central hub for university operations—including administrative offices, a library, museum, chapel, and even a U.S. Weather Bureau station.
After a fire in 1925 caused by defective wiring, Dewey Hall was rebuilt and expanded into the three-story structure that stands today, continuing its legacy as a center for learning and innovation.
