        Lawrence Argent

Professor of Sculpture, School of Art & Art History

        Limestone, bronze, sound recordings, 1999

Donated by Dr. Jerry Schultz: “For all students present, past and future; My Leslie, Sarah, Ashley and Bill. In memory of their grandparents Marguerite and William Schultz.”

Multiple sets of lips, elevated on pillars or lining the path like benches, form this interactive sculptural grouping. Music and human speech, including recorded university lectures, can be heard coming from speakers incorporated into the installation. The lips are based on digital scans of students’ mouths, expanding the notion of conversation and dialogue in a university setting. The marble elements were sculpted by a computer-controlled milling machine.

Professor of Sculpture Lawrence Argent is best known for his I See What You Mean (the big blue bear) sculpture that peers into the Denver Convention Center.
