        Sculpture by Dann Nardi.

Chosen in 1990 from a national competition for a piece to memorialize Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Dann Nardi based the sculpture on Reverend King's "Christmas Sermon on Peace," and engraved on the base of the sculpture two quotes from the speech. Nardi wrote in his sculpture proposal, "It was my intent to embrace these (King's) principles within a monumental form and space that would convey his vision as universal and enduring." Nardi noted that his abstract sculpture "hold[s] the meaning" he wanted to convey, and hoped that viewers would think of what Martin Luther King, Jr. stood for while experiencing the piece.
