This UTC library annex is named after the late Lawrence G. Derthick Sr., a onetime Chattanooga resident and former U.S. Commissioner of Education. Derthick Hall contains dual auditoriums which are host to a wide variety of lectures and seminars.
Derthick’s legacy was to work toward equalizing education opportunities for all children in Chattanooga. Derthick was appointed commissioner of education by former President Dwight D. Eisenhower. He served in that position from 1956 to 1961.
