The Wash is a natural grove of trees. Blanchard Park (the true name of "The Wash") was a 64-acre parcel of land the College acquired in 1905. Over the many years since, much of the land has been used for other things, like Merritt Football Field, Strehle Track and other athletic facilities; Sontag Greek Theatre; Brackett Observatory and the Pomona College Organic Farm. However, several acres remain and still provide wooded respite for students.
