Gift of Laura Louise Ogden Whaling, of Cincinnati, who died in 1915 and bequeathed $260,000 to Miami University for a men’s dormitory in memory of her brother George Campbell Ogden, class of 1862, and Cincinnati physician. The bequest stipulated that Ogden Hall be located to the west of the school gymnasium (Herron Hall/Van Voorhis Hall). In order to meet Ms. Ogden’s conditions without blocking Lewis Place’s view of Slant Walk, the gymnasium was moved 522 feet to the east.
