701 S Oak St., Oxford, OH 45056
Built by Rev. William Graham, then sold to Rev. William Swart Rogers in 1855. Colonel John R. Simpson an 1899 graduate of Miami, purchased the house in 1930 and gifted it to the University for use as a guest house. Simpson gave an additional $3,000 to pay for alterations to the house in 1937, at which time the building was named for him. Alumni David and Charlotte Shade contributed funds in 2004 for the structures refurbishment; as a result it was renamed Simpson-Shade Guest House.
For more than seven decades, visitors to campus — from prospective faculty members to guests with household names such as Robert Frost, Eleanor Roosevelt, Bob Hope and Isaac Stern — have enjoyed the hospitality of Miami’s Simpson Guest House.
