Named for Edward Weld King who was responsible for Miami's Library from 1922 to 1956. King was appointed as librarian at Miami and served continuously until his retirement in 1956. In 1957 he was given an honorary degree by Miami. During his tenure the library grew from 67,000 volumes to over 350,000 volumes. King was given an honorary degree by Miami in 1957.
