Bachelor Hall was named for Joseph M. Bachelor (1889-1947), a graduate of Miami University and Harvard University. He taught English at Miami for 19 years and bequeathed almost 600 acres of land northeast of Oxford to Miami University as the Joseph M. Bachelor Wildlife & Game Preserve.
