Originally named Hughes Hall, after Raymond Mollyneaux Hughes, Miami's 13th President. Renamed in 1970 (when the Hughes Hall name was reassigned to the current building) for Clarence W. Kreger '19, who served Miami for almost 40 years and who had practically designed the building while he was professor of Chemistry. He was also influential in developing many of the technical programs that led to the creation of the School of Applied Science.
