Named for Alfred Horatio Upham, class of 1887. Upham was an instructor in Latin and Greek (1898-1900), Principal of the Preparatory School (1899-1900), Professor of English (1907-1910, 1914-1920), and Miami's fourteenth President (1928-1945). Dr. Upham also wrote the Alma Mater and the history of "Old Miami".
