Gordies Overlook
Part way down the path to the Lower Level is a promontory known as Gordie’s Overlook, named in memory of Lynn Gordon “Gordie” Bailey Jr., Deerfield Class of 2004. At Deerfield, Gordie excelled in athletics, music, and drama and was remembered for his leadership, compassion, and good humor. He died in his first month at the University of Colorado, Boulder, of an alcohol overdose as part of a fraternity hazing ritual. His family created the Gordie Foundation—now the Gordie Center for Substance Abuse Prevention at the University of Virginia—to prevent similar tragedies.
