Figurative bronze sculpture by C. Holler
Albert J. Dunlap is a West Point graduate and a former football player who emerged as the unique icon of America’s entrepreneurial spirit. In his long and storied career he was chairman or CEO of nine major corporations in the United States, England and Australia, and was named “most admired” in an international survey of chief executives in 1995.
His compelling faith in the virtue of hard work and lifelong belief in the value of higher education made Al Dunlap the most feared and respected adversary in any contest: on the playing field, in the classroom or in the arena of international business.
Their admiration for the quality of the Florida State University student body inspired the relationship between Al and Judy Dunlap and the Seminoles. The Dunlaps are living expressions of their commitment to character, passion and leadership with integrity.
“It is not enough to be competent or pretty good; you must be great. And even if the great cannot rest. Assume that failure is just beyond the next obstacle. Work as hard today as you did before you became champions.”
It is in honor of Al Dunlap’s extraordinary generosity and of his warrior spirit that we dedicate the Albert J. Dunlap Athletic Training Facility where men and women become champions.
