Browning Hall, named in honor of Tennessee Governor Gordon Browning (1937-1939 and 1949-1953), was constructed in 1969. The dorm was originally known as G-H Residence Hall.
Browning Hall provides an academic setting with double occupancy rooms in two bedroom suites with connecting baths. The dorm has two units (or Y’s) separated by a common lobby area; the men's unit is on the south and the women's unit is on the north. Each unit houses 264 residents. Private rooms are available for an extra fee only when space permits.
Browning Hall is also home to the Engineering Floor. The Engineering Floor is a housing option provided to residents who are pursuing an engineering degree. A special computer lab and conference room is available on the floor. Programs and activities offered by the hall staff are relevant to residents who are pursuing an engineering degree.
