Originally constructed in 1960, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Building was named in honor of President Joseph E. Johnson, 19th President of The University of Tennessee, who was instrumental in gaining approval for the university’s bachelor’s degree program in engineering, in 1991.
The building is home to the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences and houses the departments of engineering and chemistry and physics, as well as classrooms for geology and geography.
