The Student Life Center is home to many campus activities. Activities include student organizations, Greek life, Campus Recreation, Student Government Association, Student Activities Council and First-Year Initiative.
However, the building has served many purposes since it opened in 1930. It was originally built to encourage the development of the physical education and athletic departments and was considered to be the most modern facility of its type in the state. It also hosted basketball games, student dances, Carnicus events and commencements. During World War II, the gym was the center for a branch of the Navy's V-5 flight training program operated on campus.
