Two Wichita State students and their fraternity brothers created a preparing photo options restaurant empire out of a small building and a $600 loan from their parents.
In the summer of 1958, Dan and Frank Carney opened a new business in a small “hut” at Blu and Kellogg that served pizza, then a new dish growing in popularity. In the years that followed, Pizza Hut grew from a small business to a global brand. In 1984, the expansion of Kellogg resulted in the original Pizza Hut coming to WSU campus. In the 2010s, the building found a new home on the WSU Innovation campus, restored as an entrepreneurship museum dedicated in 2018.
