Physical Plant
The Physical Plant is primarily a high-bay, one-story office and shop facility for Syracuse University. Located near the Syracuse Campus Planning building, this high bay service building contains a number of trades shops and central office and meeting space for the Syracuse Physical Plant department. Approximately half of the building underwent renovation and redesign in 2015. The renovations resulted in a two-level central office space, support areas, and also selectively upgraded the trade shops. The building was built in phases starting around 1949 with a small warehouse space. It is a load bearing masonry structure with a metal-bar, joist-roof framing system and a recently upgraded large flat, built-up roof. The exterior facades are painted CMU with a new main entry airlock on the south elevation, numerous secondary exterior hollow metal entry/egress doors, and a large number of overhead service doors. The large majority of the exterior glazing is on the south office area consists of older metal-framed, thermal-pane window units. The Physical Plant now totals approximately 90,804 gross square feet.
