    1. Thun Library

Ferdinand Thun, with partner Henry Janssen, founded three companies that became the Wyomissing Industries. The library is named for the Thun family, which continues its strong support of Penn State Berks.

Built in 1975, the Thun Library was expanded in 2001 with the Boscov-Lakin Information Commons. The Boscov and Lakin family are best known for Boscov’s Department stores and for a legacy of philanthropy in the Berks County community.

The Berks Thun Library features the Boscov-Lakin Information Commons, a welcoming, technology-rich environment that supports the teaching and learning needs of undergraduate students, faculty, and staff. The library offers two classrooms and includes a Media Commons suite with a Studio One, recording booth, and three video editing rooms. The facility also houses a Sensory Room, conference room, the Cohen Lounge, a Collaboration Commons, the Discovery Lab, technology pods, ten small study rooms, eight large group study rooms, the Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute Exhibit and Timeline, and a Makerspace with 3D printers and a Cricut machine.

Our collections include approximately 65,000 volumes and support the courses offered at Penn State Berks. We offer extensive research collections that span topics from children’s books to ethics and offer a large selection of popular leisure viewing and reading titles, as well as a growing board game collection.

The student Help Desk offers technical assistance, professional librarians assist students and faculty with their research, and the Center for Learning and Teaching work with faculty on instructional design and delivery.
