    1. Berlin, Germany (Short-term Program)

This study trip explores the intersections of architecture, art, memory and modernity through the case of Berlin. Through immersion in the city, students will gain foundational skills in urban observation, mapping, historical research and the act of memory on the creative process. We will explore the city’s modern and historical art and architecture in the context of global and historical developments including imperialism, world war, municipal socialism, fascism, the Cold War, the collapse of Communism, and democratization and capital building. We will meet local artists and historians and study the legacies of modernity in the city’s everyday lived experience.
