    1. Advanced Manufacturing & Innovation Center (AMIC)

      The Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Center, or AMIC, opened in 2016 in Penn State Behrend's Knowledge Park. The building houses the School of Engineering's mechanical and industrial engineering faculty offices, classrooms, and laboratories.

      Half of AMIC is leased to industrial tenants. Shared research space encourages "open lab" collaboration between industry and Penn State Behrend faculty and students, a learning model celebrated in Fast Company magazine.

      In support of the industry partnerships developed with the mechanical and industrial engineering departments, the labs in AMIC contain equipment highly valuable to the industry. For instance, the environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM) lab is located at AMIC. This ESEM capability has been utilized widely by industry partners in agriculture, material development, and aerospace.
