The Allen Natatorium was completed in the fall of 1977 when Trask Coliseum was constructed. UNCW’s intercollegiate swimming and diving program was initiated by Head Coach Dave Allen when the facility was completed.
Description and Current Usage:
The natatorium is one of the finest in the college ranks and features a 25-yard, eight-lane Olympic-size pool and a separate diving tank that descends 17 feet. Other features include a first-aid and hydrotherapy room, showers and locker rooms.
The facility is shared by:
- Athletic teams (Men’s Swimming & Diving and Women’s Swimming & Diving)
- The School of Health and Applied Human Sciences
- Campus Recreation Programs
- Community
The Seahawk Natatorium has been the site of six Colonial Athletic Association championships and numerous youth swimming meets.
