The Institute for Global Public Health is working to raise awareness and prepare physicians to address the challenges of current and future global health issues. It also is developing a master of public health program.
This interdisciplinary field of study enables students to understand and promote individual and population health in communities here and throughout the world. Global public and community health themes are integrated throughout the School of Medicine curriculum. Students may study the field in-depth by selecting it as a concentration for the Scholarly Reflection and Capstone Concentration course. Current capstone projects in the global public and community health concentration include using mobile technology to improve primary care of diabetes in Senegal and diarrhea prevention education for mothers in cholera-affected areas of Haiti.
