This lab supports core civil and mechanical engineering courses. The lab activities are integrated into the course lectures, providing the students with additional opportunities for experiential learning throughout the course. A variety of equipment is house in this laboratory to provide hands on demonstrations of course topics. This includes a Reynold’s number apparatus to illustrate transition from laminar to turbulent flow. A pipe flow apparatus is instrumented with manometers and a rotameter to investigate fluid flow and pressure drops through various pipe configurations. Hydraulic benches are used to demonstrate a variety of concepts relevant to fluid mechanics such as the development of energy and hydraulic grade lines and the use of a variety of flow measurement devices. A wind tunnel provides opportunities for students to explore concepts of boundary layer flow, lift, and drag. Located in the Center for Communications and Engineering.
