The iron tree sculpture between the Student Services Building and the Frank H. McClung Museum is the work of Duane McDiarmid, who produces projects in social sculpture and experimental works in his medium of performance art. He holds the BFA (1982) from Kansas City Art Institute and the MFA (1984) from Florida State. He has three times been awarded project support for the development of new forms in the arts by regional offices of the National Endowment for the Arts in conjunction with the Rockefeller Foundation. Betula Chalyb Ferruginous was purchased for the Reese Collection in 1991.
