Energy Center: Cogeneration Plant
Completed in spring of 2006, a natural gas engine generates electricity, heat, and air conditioning for the majority of campus, providing about 80% of the power used on an average day. Generating its own power enables the University to be more self-sufficient and energy-efficient. So far the power plant has lowered the University's carbon footprint by about 35%, which is equivalent to removing 640 cars from the road, while planting 1,000 acres of trees every year.
