Sigma Chi fraternity came to Hobart College on the 27th of September, 1892. The Alpha Alpha chapter - for several years the largest fraternity on Hobart campus, drew men of different temperaments, talents and convictions. After continuously operating on Hobart College campus for 114 years, Sigma Chi reluctantly left the campus in 2006. However, it didn't take too long for the rich history of the fraternity to encourage young men to bring the fraternity back. As a result, an interest group was formed in the fall of 2012 by student interest that led to the establishment of Sigma Chi's Epsilon Colony at Hobart College. In 2016 the Colony was Re-Chartered becoming once again, the Alpha Alpha Chapter of Sigma Chi. Today, the men of Sigma Chi stand for protecting the values and interests of both the international fraternity as well as Hobart and William Smith Colleges. The brothers of Sigma Chi perform exceptionally well in academics and extracurricular. In the recent past, Sigma Chi brothers have been involved in the Hobart Student Government, Hobart Crew Team, Debate Team, Religious Life, Hobartones, etc while continuously being recognized as campus leaders.
