Completed in 1992, the Education Building houses the FSU School of Education and the School of Nursing. It also houses the Master of Arts in Teaching faculty. The One Room School House, located at the bottom of the hill, preserves and honors Fairmont State's earliest origins as a private teacher-training school. Retired Fine Arts faculty member Barry Snyder created the sculpture called "The Spirit of Ethel Ferrell" in front of the schoolhouse as a tribute to the dedication of early teachers. The sculpture represents Ethel Ferrell, who graduated from Fairmont Normal School in 1919 and her riding horse "Bird."
