Texas A&M University at Galveston’s Vessel Operations Boat Basin is an energetic hub of activity, using a multi-mission mix of education, training, and recreational vessels that the diverse water-related campus and community have available seven days a week throughout the year. The waterfront hosts numerous waterborne research projects, labs, training opportunities, continuing education programs, and Sea Camps.

Hosting those activities are a wide variety of sea vessels: The R/V Trident is the jewel of the fleet, a $2.3 million ship built for research and training. The Trident has berthing for 12 crew and scientists and can operate 24 hours per day for up to 5 days. The 47 ft R/V Earl Milan can hold 25 persons and is extensively used for training and education of marine scientists and biologists. The fleet has a number of smaller boats, including the 25 ft. Ranger, a Push Boat used for barge training.

Standing at the edge of the boat basin the Ocean and Coastal Sciences Building is home to marine biology and marine science research laboratories and the Sea Life Facility.
